Chris was voted the 2006 titlist over two other finalists, Casey Rivers and Nicole Jamrose, by fans who cast their votes through special phone numbers and Internet polls. Nearly five million votes were tallied for the May 2 final episode. During the telecast on the USA Network, Chris performed his original tune "Drinking Me Lonely" as well as Randy Travis' classic "Forever and Ever, Amen." He wins a recording contract with Sony BMG Nashville, a brand-new Chevrolet Silverado and a future performing slot on the Grand Ole Opry. "I can't even explain how excited I am," Chris told Country Weekly after being crowned the 2006 titlist. "Winning this show is huge, but I know it's only a stepping stone. There's no guarantee beyond this point." Chris added that he will meet with the label to discuss his first single, which is scheduled for release this summer.
