Lead vocalist Natalie Maines, who became the target of protests after her anti-President Bush statements in 2003, said that the group understood why some stations would not play their music. "When you are in the corporate world for your livelihood and when a hundred people e-mail you that they will never listen to your station again, you get scared of losing your job, and why did they need to stand up for us?" Natalie said. Natalie added that she saw no reason to apologize for her 2003 statements. She and band members Emily Robison and Martie Maguire also discussed the death threats they received after Natalie's comments.
