Kenny Chesney, Dierks Bentley, Carrie Underwood and more attended the awards, handed out by performing rights organization ASCAP. John Rich won the ASCAP Songwriter/Artist of the Year for writing such hits as Gretchen Wilson’s “All Jacked Up,” Faith Hill’s “Mississippi Girl” and more. Brett James and Rivers Rutherford shared the honor as ASCAP Songwriter of the Year, while “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” written by James, Hillary Lindsey and Gordie Sampson, was named the ASCAP Country Song of the Year. A highlight of the evening included a special tribute to ASCAP Voice of Music Award honoree Jimmy Webb, composer of such timeless classics as ‘Wichita Lineman” and “Galveston.” Glen Campbell, who recorded those songs as well as other Webb tunes, made a guest appearance.
