Killen, an Alabama native, was best known for his work in music publishing. After being hired at Tree Publishing in 1953, he brought songwriters like Bill Anderson, Roger Miller and Dolly Parton into the company. Ten years after joining Tree, the company was taking in more than one million dollars in revenue. Tree was sold in 1989, after which Killen formed the Killen Music Group. At one time, he owned the famed Stock-Yard restaurant in Nashville as well as SoundShop Recording Studios. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, but a memorial service is expected to be held at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
