Del first came to prominence on the country charts with “Girl on the Billboard,” which hit No. 1 in 1965. His other hits included “Good Time Charlie’s,” “The Belles of Southern Bell” and “The Philadelphia Fillies.” A talented mimic, Del often enlivened his concerts with impressions of stars like Johnny Cash and Little Jimmy Dickens. He joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1966 and made his last appearance there in 2002. Del was also instrumental in launching the careers of Lee Greenwood and Billy Ray Cyrus. He is survived by his wife Ellen and daughters Anne, Kari and Bethany. The cause of death was not announced.
