The popular singer will arrive in New York on horseback to appear on Late Night With David Letterman, Wednesday, May 23. It all started when the show’s orchestra played Murphey’s enduring hit “Wildfire,” one of Letterman’s favorite songs. Letterman asked bandleader Paul Schaefer what the song’s reference to “sod bustin’ “meant. Michael told his friend Gary Roller, “We should send a video of me riding my horse to New York to explain sod bustin’ to David.” A camera crew arrived later to document the singer mounting his horse and riding to the Big Apple. Michael will appear on the May 23 show to sing “Wildfire” and explain the term to Letterman in person.
