Several stars met with members of the media backstage following their award wins and performances. Taylor Swift, who copped Video of the Year and Female Video of the Year for “Our Song,” seemed pleased just to be included on the show. “I was so excited that I got a performance,” said Taylor, who sang her current hit, “Picture to Burn.” Taylor added, “I did not expect to take away an award. I’m having the best night I can remember.”
LeAnn Rimes performed her hit, “Nothin’ Better to Do,” with a full bevy of dancers. “I would love to do that again,” said LeAnn, who will be heading out on tour with Kenny Chesney soon. “I would also like to do a Broadway show someday,” LeAnn added. “Broadway has always been my first love.”
Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts made certain to acknowledge the people who voted for the band’s video, “Take Me There.” “We’ve had great success because of the fans,” Gary noted. “They have made our dreams come true.”
Trace Adkins, who became known to millions of TV viewers from his stint on Celebrity Apprentice, was asked if that exposure may have vaulted him to his award for Male Video of the Year. “I would think that didn’t hurt at all,” Trace agreed. “It could have gone either way. It could have been just as powerful to make me look like an idiot.” Trace also drew hearty laughs when asked to compare fan-voted awards with industry honors. “The difference is that I have a chance to win the fan-voted ones,” Trace said with a smile.
