Danny, whose real name was George Nowlan, was educated at the New England Conservatory of Music and played trumpet with several swing bands, including Gene Krupa and Bob Crosby. He founded Danny Davis & the Nashville Brass in 1968. The group took home six consecutive CMA awards for Instrumental Group of the Year from 1969–1974. Danny often played trumpet on the popular TV series Hee Haw as part of the “Million Dollar Band.” Most recently, Danny was heard on Royal Wade Kimes’ song “Danny Play,” currently featured on XM satellite radio. The funeral for Danny will be held Monday, June 16, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Nashville at 10 a.m.
