Stringbean and his wife Estelle were murdered at their home in Ridgetop, Tenn., Nov. 30, 1973. Brown and his cousin, Marvin Brown, were both convicted on two counts of first-degree murder in the incident. John A. Brown has served 34 years of a 198-year sentence. On July 23, he told a parole board that he has changed and asked for parole to be granted. Two members of the state parole board voted to let Brown out of prison. The rest of the board will vote in the next two to four weeks, and two of the five remaining members must vote in favor of his release.
