The Woodland, Ala., native had suffered a stroke three weeks ago. Vern first found success in the late 1960s in a duo with brother Rex, the Gosdin Bros. In the mid-1970s, Vern began a solo career that would include hits like “Set ‘Em Up Joe,” “I’m Still Crazy,” “That Just About Does It” and the 1989 CMA Song of the Year “Chiseled in Stone.” Late last year, he released a box set of re-recorded classics called 40 Years of the Voice. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
