During his career, Steve, 38, won numerous songwriting awards. He was inducted into the Traditional Country Hall Of Fame in Anderson, Ind., as a writer for the song, “Heidi,” and for his many accomplishments in country music over the years. Steve has been suffering from dystonia, which affects his muscles and speech. In 1997, he received the Outstanding Citizen award for his community activism from Anderson's Mayor Mark Lawler, and in 2002, he was the recipient of the Distinguished Hoosier Award, which recognized his many accomplishments despite his physical condition.
