Alex LeVasseur, Jeffrey's son, passed away in early 2007 in a tragic ATV accident. Jeffrey and his family established the scholarship program through a Fund at The Community Foundation and planned the first annual festival in June 2007 to raise funds for a scholarship that motivates children by providing incentives and mentors. "This is a great scholarship program," Jeffrey told Country Weekly recently. "People have been more than eager to help in the past, and we expect a great turnout this year. It's just a fun day for everyone." Admission to the festival is free and kicks off with live music by Jeffrey, American Bang, LoCash Cowboys, Ricky Young & Red White Blue, Pearl Heart and others. Last year, Miley Cyrus made a surprise appearance at the event. "We could have another surprise this year," Jeffrey says. "I never know who might show up."The festival will feature food vendors, skate demos, autographed auction items and other activities. Skating was a particular passion for Alex, Jeffrey remembers. "He just loved it," says Jeffrey. "He was really showing signs on improvement in the sport." Jeffrey adds, "We can never bring Alex back, of course, but this has helped us and his friends to remember him. That's really important to us now."
