Chris Young had a lot to celebrate at a fan club party held at Nashville’s Tin Roof on June 10. He has scored two back-to-back hits, “Getting You Home (The Black Dress Song)” and “The Man I Want To Be,” and he turns 25 on June 12.
It was an unusual scene at the bar/restaurant as both music industry bigwigs such as BMI’s Jody Williams and songwriters Brett James and Tim Nichols and Chris' enthusiastic fans celebrated under the same roof. Plaques were passed out to the various radio promoters and label representatives who helped spur the songs to No. 1. Sony Nashville also surprised Chris with a plaque commemorating digital sales of his single, “Getting You Home.” “This is a total surprise; I had no idea I was getting this,” Chris told those assembled.
Chris also told reporters that getting a hit before his 25th birthday was definitely a goal of his. “It’s amazing that those things are in my grasp at 25 years old. Some people don’t even get a [record] deal until way after my age. It’s something that I’m really proud of, that I want to keep working for.”
The singer’s birthday week, which coincides with CMA Music Festival, is a busy one. “When I was a teenager, I came to Fan Fair when it was at the fairgrounds, and I got to see some of my favorite singers there,” Chris told reporters. “I like the idea of offering that same experience for my fans because having the opportunity to meet some of my favorite artists, talk to them and get their autograph and picture is something I'll never forget."
Chris’ industry friends and fans helped him celebrate his birthday a few days early with a cake and red balloons emblazoned with "25," while fans sang “Happy Birthday.”
