Watch out, Carrie Underwood: Kelly Clarkson might be trying to take over the country American Idol crown.
You might recall that Kelly, the first-ever Idol champ, had a hit with her country idol, Reba McEntire, back in 2005, a remake of Kelly’s “Because of You.” Kelly and Reba even toured together some.
Now comes word that Kelly cut a duet with Jason Aldean for Jason’s upcoming album, My Kinda Party, to be released Nov. 2.
The duet is called “Don’t You Wanna Stay” and Jason says his list of potential partners was short. "There's only a couple of people that I felt like had the chops to pull it off, had that really soulful kind of voice that I really wanted on the record, and so our targets were Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson," Jason tells Country Weekly. Calls were made and Kelly was on board.
Word is that Kelly bought a place in Nashville a couple of years ago, and she has been spotted around Music City often in the past five years or so.
Her latest Music City sighting came back in May when another Idol alum, Chris Daughtry, played a Nashville show and Kelly joined him onstage for a song.
