It may be nine years since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, but for Trace Adkins that time passed has hardly cooled his fury.
At a pair of especially patriotic concerts this weekend with Toby Keith—one in Scranton, Pa., the other near our nation’s capital in Bristow, Va.—Trace chose to mark the anniversary by playing his seldom-performed 2003 song “Welcome to Hell.”
“I wanted to write a song that insults those guys,” Trace told an appreciative Scranton crowd on Friday night (Sept. 10), referring to the 9/11 hijackers. “This is that song.” And with that he launched into the fiery show-closing “Welcome to Hell,” a furious rocker from his Greatest Hits Collection, Volume 1 album that finds Trace playing the devil and asking the terrorists to Come on in, have a seat / Don’t mind the screams, don’t mind the heat.
“I don’t scare worth a sh-t,” Trace said, prior to the daring performance. “And this country doesn’t either.”
