Did ya catch the Robin Roberts country special last night on ABC?
Miranda Lambert revealed she had some tough times growing up in Texas. She said both her parents were private investigators who had a tough time making ends meet.
Miranda said she spent parts of her childhood homeless and bankrupt. On top of that, her parents’ work exposed her to stories about domestic violence and other nastiness.
“That was a crazy life . . . and I wasn’t sheltered from it,” Miranda told Robin.
Sometimes, battered women and children would spend time with Miranda’s family, and that affected Miranda’s songwriting.
“I started writing songs at 17,” she says. “So what experience did I have to write about? I just used what I had seen in life, what I had seen my parents go through. We had some hard times.”
Miranda added, though, that there was love in the house.
“I had a great childhood,” she said. “My family is awesome.”
