Martina McBride has just hit radio with her first single from a new album, and it's a pretty personal song that she co-wrote.
“Teenage Daughters”—Martina's got two—is about adolescents pulling away while parents struggle with clinging on.
One of the most telling lyrics: She rolls her eyes when I'm funny, but she's sweet when she wants money, and her freedom.
“The little girl who thought you were so cool and always wanted to hold your hand or would dance with you in the kitchen, suddenly is a little embarrassed by those things,” Martina said in a statement. “No matter how much you think you are prepared for it, it still takes you by surprise.”
Another surprise: Martina shows off a little twang in her voice that hasn't been there before.
