George Strait hunts for songs the way a detective searches for clues â he leaves no stone unturned.
"I look constantly for songs," George once revealed. "I go to publishing houses, people send me stuff. Whenever I get to Nashville, I've got a big box full to the top with tapes that I have to go through."
George notes that he'll listen to hundreds of songs for upcoming albums, but probably keep only 20. One of those "keepers" George unearthed in 1986 was "Ocean Front Property," written by Dean Dillon, Royce Porter and the legendary Hank Cochran.
"Ocean Front Property" became the title track to George's 1987 album and also the first single, which was released on Han. 17. When the catchy little ditty hit No. 1 on April 4, 1987, it marked a special milestone for George â his 10th career chart-topper.
Of course, George didn't stop there. His next eight songs also reached to top, and George has gone on to score a total of 38 Billboard No. 1s â more than any other active country star.
