MOTHER OF INVENTION
"My mom was an incredible singer," recalls Joey, whose parents met while performing in a band together. "We didn't have a stereo, so she was music to us."
"When I hit the stage at five years old and sang 'Coat of Many Colors' in the school talent show, I decided right then singing was what I wanted to do," reveals Joey. "It was a rush that I got, the response. I felt like I touched some people, and I enjoyed that."
Joey still works three days a week as a horse veterinarian's assistant. "It keeps me sane," she declares. "Until the music takes me away from it completely, I'll continue to do it." She's regularly accompanied to work by her dog, Rufus, who co-stars in her "Red" video. "He's pretty much the office greeter," she chuckles, "but he gets to chase squirrels occasionally."
