While vacationing in Destin, Fla., hit songwriter Tim Johnson looked for CD of beach-themed songs to relax with—and found nothing. Inspiration struck. “He called me up,” recalls fellow Grammy-nominated tunesmith David Malloy, “and said, ‘Let’s make a beach record.’”
That’s exactly what they did. Edge of the Blue, Volume #1 is a collection of mostly original songs addressing the entire spectrum of activities and emotions related to the experience of a beach vacation. Once Tim and David finished the album, they set about figuring out how to market such a unique project and hit upon the idea of partnering with TuneTees, a Nashville-based company that sells music-themed clothing, to create shirts based on songs from the album. So, anyone buying one of the Edge of the Blue T-shirts at tuneteesonline.com or www.beachaholic.com will receive a code for a bundled digital download of the full album. “A portion of the proceeds from sales will go toward MusiCares, which aids musicians in financial need; and to Ocean Conservancy, dedicated to preserving ocean water and wildlife.
