Keith Anderson never went to Disneyland as a kid, but he got just enough of a taste of it recently when his tour took him to the Anaheim, Calif., House of Blues—right near Mickey and Minnie’s front door—to know what he’s been missing.
“It was cool to at least be in the area. We didn’t really have time to go in the park and do anything. But walkin’ around and seein’ everything kinda brought out the little kid and got the excitement goin’,” he says of the trip that also found him playing shows at the House of Blues in Los Angeles and one at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas—all during one week. Here’s more of what Keith had to say about his whirlwind week.

- I know you played three different House of Blues venues in one week. Have you played others before doing the recent series of shows?
- We’ve played the House of Blues in Houston and down in Mississippi. We’ve played in three or four of ‘em in the past. But this was the first time for those three, all in one week. It was really cool, especially havin’ Luke Bryan and Lost Trailers with us every night.
- Does playing the House of Blues cause you to play even more blues feeling tunes than you normally would . . . although things like “wildflowers” are certainly pretty bluesy?
- It’s pretty much the same. Our stuff’s got a real bluesy rock feel to it anyway. So we just do exactly what we do. And the fans comin’ in are all country fans, so we’re not tryin’ to change anything up. The whole vibe of those clubs is so cool. Even the way they decorate—the backstage areas and all the different green rooms. Even the hallways and stairwells are just so edgy and cool and rockin’. Just such a great vibe.
- I know you and Luke Bryan worked on writing a song together on this trip. When you co-write with another artist, is it readily apparent who the song is better for?
- It depends on who feels more comfortable singin’ it and, if it’s somethin’ we both just loved, it’d probably be whoever’s recording next. Just that kind of a deal. Especially if you have that chemistry where you’re writin’ songs you both love that much, you know you’re gonna continue writing. Hopefully one’ll be on one record and write another song for the other guy’s record.
