Who’s Gonna Fill Their Legendary Shoes?
Perhaps a more low-key entry than some of the others in this category, Dierks Bentley has nonetheless weathered a decade of recording and scoring big hits. Like his recent tourmate Miranda Lambert, Dierks seems content to follow his muse wherever it leads him, whether it’s the Waylon-style throwback (“Lot of Leavin’ Left to Do”), the twangy U2 homage (“Home”) or a classic bluegrass jam (“Up on the Ridge”). But he’s also not above getting plain crazy, as the rowdy “5-1-5-0” proves. On top of all that, Dierks seems like a devoted family man who drives an old pickup and loves his dog—just the everyman quality that a legendary country star needs in order to survive.
