Who’s Gonna Fill Their Legendary Shoes?
When the history books are rewritten and revised, George Strait just might emerge as the greatest country star of all time. You’d have to look at the sum of all the parts. He’s not the writer that Hank Williams was, nor is he a pioneer in the spirit of Roy Acuff or even George Jones. His stage shows will hardly be compared to those of Garth Brooks. But consider George’s record-setting career numbers (44 Billboard No. 1 singles, among other marks), amazing longevity, active (in every sense of the word) on the charts for more than 30 years, and the fact that he’s just finished a major tour at age 61. If that doesn’t define “living legend,” you might have to refigure your standards. Plus, George’s ever-present fingerprints are highly visible on today’s new crop of stars, including Dustin Lynch, Greg Bates, Justin Moore and many others.
