Known primarily as a songwriter and Americana artist, Patty Griffin has only recently been noticed by many mainstream country fans for her duets with Dierks Bentley and Jack Ingram—and now she offers a set of spiritual songs. Patty’s voice can run the musical gamut as easily as her songs do—from a deep soulful vibrato on the classic spiritual “Wade in the Water” to a hushed twang on Hank Williams’ “House of Gold” and the bluesy “If I Had My Way.” Recorded in a historic church in downtown Nashville, this collection marries acoustic soul with timeless lyrics of compassion.
