Amid the flurry of birthday wishes he's gotten recently – including phone calls from former presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter – the Senate of the state of Texas publicly declared Nelson "a treasure of Austin and the state of Texas," and offered "congratulations and best wishes to him on his 70th birthday."
