Randy Travis was arrested on a charge of suspicion of public intoxication Monday morning (Feb. 6) in front of First Baptist Church in Sanger, Texas.

Sanger police told NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth that Randy, who has a ranch in nearby Tioga, was seen in front of the church with an open bottle of wine. “A report of a suspicious vehicle was called in to Sanger police. Police go to investigate and find him smelling like alcohol and [he] had an open bottle of wine,” said Tom Reedy, with the Denton County Sheriff's Department.

Officers took the singer to Denton, where he was booked at the county jail around 1:30 a.m. on Monday. "They take you to jail for at least four hours, time to sober up," Officer Reedy explained regarding Randy's misdemeanor. Randy was released a short time later.

According to a statement obtained by CountryWeekly.com, Randy has taken responsibility for the incident, which he says resulted from a overindulging while celebrating the New York Giants win at the Super Bowl. "I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl," he said. "I'm committed to being responsible and accountable, and apologize for my actions."
