UPDATE: Taylor Says Joni Mitchell Film Role Not Confirmed

Taylor has already appeared in Valentine’s Day and voiced a character in The Lorax.

The rumors have been flying for months.

But now, Hollywood trade magazine Variety has said that Taylor Swift has definitely booked the role of pioneering musician Joni Mitchell in an upcoming movie about three trailblazing singer/songwriters.

The magazine reports that Taylor landed the Joni Mitchell role in an upcoming film adaptation of Sheila Weller's book Girls Like Us, about Joni, Carole King ("It's Too Late") and Carly Simon ("You're So Vain").

Lots of names are still being thrown around for who might play the other singers.

No official confirmation from Taylor's camp yet.

UPDATED Sept. 28

We asked Taylor about her signing on to play Joni Mitchell. Here's what she told us:

"I'm not confirmed, actually. I'm not actually signed on to do a movie at this point. You never want to talk about something like that until it is a definite thing. I would love to tell that story. It would be amazing. It would be an interesting, fascinating, incredibly intelligent and wonderful character to play, but nothing is confirmed right now."
