Update: Randy Travis Gets in Trouble (Again)
Cited for simple assault, but not intoxicated
Randy Travis has had yet another run-in with the law.
The Plano, Texas, police department confirms to CountryWeekly.com that Randy was cited with simple assault after being involved in fight in a church parking lot.
Reports that Randy Travis was "extremely intoxicated" during a recent altercation are innacurate according to Officer David Tilley of the Plano, Texas, Police Department. Officer Tilley confirmed that the reporting officer called to the scene turned in a very thorough report stating "no indication of intoxication."
He also offered additional details of the event, stating that a "verbal altercation" broke out between a husband and wife. Randy, who was said to be a friend of the wife, intervened and "assaulted" the husband. Tilley explained that Randy was cited with a "Class C Assault" misdemeanor or a "simple assault," similar to a traffic ticket, and said that in the state of Texas a simple assault is any "unwanted touch." He could not confirm the level of assault.
The fire department's EMS unit was called in to check everyone involved in the altercation and all refused transportation to the hospital at that point.
Earlier this month, Randy was arrested for drunk driving after police found him asleep on a Texas road after crashing his car. A retaliation charge was added after he threatened arresting officers. And in February, he was arrested for public intoxication after he was found parked in front of a church in Sanger, Texas.
