Twenty-Year Friendship: So How Did Tim and Kenny Meet Anyway?

Kenny concedes that he and Tim have had some “slick spots” over the course of their friendship.

OK, so Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney have been buddies for, like, 20 years. How did those two crazy kids meet each other, anyway.

Uh, well . . . Kenny's not sure.

"Tim and I have been friends—he was one of the first guys I met when I came to town," Kenny told reporters.

OK, go on.

"I moved to Nashville January the 13th, 1991. The reason I know the date, it was the date the first Gulf War started," he added.

OK, but how did you . . . ?

"I couldn't tell you how or where I met Tim. I just remember always knowing him. I don't know. Mutual friends, obviously. I couldn't tell you to this day how we met."

So there.

Kenny adds that every long-term friendship has rough patches, and he and Tim are no exception.

"Tim and I, our friendship is great right now, but you can't be friends for 20 years and not have slick spots in your friendship with anybody," Kenny said. "With your family, whoever it is. And Tim and I have had that. It's like all those years of us being on different paths, our friendship. All the stresses that he's gone through, me, everything that we've been through in our lives came together."

Brothers of the Sun kicks off Saturday (June 2) in Tampa, Fla.
