Tune In: Dolly Parton Stars in Lifetime Christmas Movie
Dolly plays herself in scenes shot at Dollywood.
It may only be November, but the holiday season begins when Dolly Parton says it does. At least we like to think so. This Saturday (Nov. 9) at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime, the Country Music Hall of Famer kicks off the Yuletide with the new movie A Country Christmas Story.
The tale of a young country girl (played by Desiree Ross) who goes against her mother’s wishes to become a singer, A Country Christmas Story was shot partially at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and casts Dolly as—who else?—herself.
“It’s a sweet little story about bringing families together. It’s about a divorced couple and their biracial daughter, who wants to follow in her daddy’s footsteps. But her mama is still so bitter and angry about her father that she doesn’t want her to be in show business,” Dolly tells Country Weekly. “She enters a contest that I, D.P., from Dollywood, is offering, a talent show. She comes to compete, and out of that, we get the family all together.”
Dolly wrote some of the music for the film, which costars R&B singer Brian McKnight as the girl’s father and Rules of Engagement’s Megyn Price as her mother.
Raves Dolly: “It’s a wonderful little movie.”
