Troy Gentry Celebrates Duo’s No. 1

Montgomery Gentry’s Troy Gentry was on hand in Nashville, Wednesday, Jan. 28, to help celebrate the success of the duo's recent No. 1 hit, “Roll With Me.”

Troy attended parties at Nashville’s ASCAP and BMI offices to honor the song’s writers, Clint Daniels and Tommy Karlas. Troy’s duo partner Eddie Montgomery was unable to make the parties due to icy road conditions in Kentucky, where Eddie lives. Troy remarked to members of the Nashville media that this was the first time that he and Eddie had enjoyed back-to-back No. 1s, following last summer’s “Back When I Knew it All.” “That’s another mile marker in our history,” said Troy, adding that he and Eddie liked the song the first time they heard it.

Troy also shared his thoughts on the passing of Lynyrd Skynyrd keyboard player Billy Powell, who had died earlier that day. Montgomery Gentry had starred with the Southern rock band on an episode of the CMT Crossroads series. “It’s a sad day for anyone who grew up on Southern rock,” Troy said. “Eddie and I played a lot of Skynyrd songs in clubs when we were starting out. It was a highlight for Eddie and me to be around them when we did the CMT Crossroads show.”
