TOBY TAKES TOP BMI PRIZE

Toby Keith’s “As Good As I Once Was” took home the Country Song of the Year honor at the BMI Music Awards in Nashville, Saturday night, Nov. 4.

Toby also shared the songwriter of the year prize with Vicky McGehee and Ed Hill. “This is my favorite awards show,” Toby told Nashville’s daily newspaper The Tennessean. “I was a songwriter first before I became an artist, and I’ll be a songwriter forever.” Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of the BMI Icon award to Hall of Famer Merle Haggard.
