Toby Releases Star-Studded “Stupid,” “Perfect” Song

“Red Solo Cup” video includes pitcher Roger Clemens, Eric Church, Craig Ferguson, Carrot Top and others.

Love it or hate it, Toby Keith's new song "Red Solo Cup" and its accompanying star-studded video are generating lots of talk.

The song is a silly salute to the plastic red Solo cup that's ubiquitous at fraternity parties or cookouts.

Toby somehow got late-night TV talk show host Craig Ferguson, pitcher Roger Clemens, comedian/puppet master Jeff Dunham, country singers Eric Church and Joe Nichols, magician Lance Burton and basketball legend Larry Bird to appear in the video.

Reviews are mixed.

William Goodman, in his CBS News blog, The Feed, wrote, “We here at The Feed would like to take a moment to give props and a triple-rainbow salute to Keith for his hilarious tribute to the classic cups always seen at get-togethers, barbecues and celebrations both big and small!”

Entertainment Weekly blogger Grady Smith wasn't as amused, addressing his comments right to Toby: “You used to be the biggest superstar in country music, selling millions of records and raising just as many eyebrows, but these days, rather than making music for the masses, it seems like you’re more willing to scrape the bottom of the buffoon barrel and simply pander to your Trailerhood audience.”

As for Toby, he agrees with both.

“The first time I heard it, I said, ‘That's the stupidest song I’ve ever heard,’” he told Country Weekly. “Then five minutes later, I’m singing it in my head.

“It’s amazing how stupid the song is, and how perfect it is.”
