Toby Keith Golf Classic Raises $1 Million for OK Kids Korral
Annual fundraiser and golf tournament boasts record-breaking attendance.
Toby Keith took a different approach to raising money for the Toby Keith Foundation during his annual two-day Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic, held May 10 and 11. He showed guests and participants at the event what their donations were doing. “We've been talking about what we are going to do with the OK Kids Korral for a few years now," he explains. "This year we showed people what we are doing and that made the difference."
More than $1 million was raised during the weekend with nearly $500,000 coming from Friday's auction alone. Toby and comedian pal Rodney Carrington acted as auctioneers, taking bids on such items as a day with Toby's crew on the Hammer Down Tour, a custom Honda Rune and an ACM Awards package. The silent auction, which boasted items like Luke Bryan concert tickets, Cal Ripken memorabilia and the opportunity to have a sandwich named after you at the Toby Keith I Love This Bar & Grill—which sold for $10,000—helped to make the event one of the biggest auctions in the state of Oklahoma.
Saturday's golf tournament had a record-breaking 240 people in attendance, forcing the event's organizers to divide the participants into two shotgun starts for the first time in the tournament‘s history.
The OK Kids Korral is a extended-stay facility provided to families with children being treated for cancer. The house has 16 suites, a gourmet kitchen, indoor playroom, theater and areas for relaxation or meeting. The OK Kids Korral is scheduled to open this year in Oklahoma City.
