Tim McGraw Surprises Lionel Richie by Rejecting Lyric Sheet

Seems Tim has done "Sail On" live in concert a whole bunch of times.

Lionel Richie is soon to release a duets album for which he and several country stars remade his monster pop hits, and he had one big surprise while putting together the project.

For their duet of "Sail On," Tim McGraw told him he didn't need no stinkin' lyrics.

Lionel told CMT's Cody Alan that he brought in a lyric sheet for the session with Tim, and Tim said, "What's that for, Lionel? I know it by heart."

Lionel responded, "Well, I don't!"

Seems Tim was covering "Sail On" in concert all this spring, so it's no wonder he has memorized the lyrics.

Lionel's duets album will be called Tuskegee.
