Thompson Square Hits It Big in the Arcade

Country duo Thompson Square might have missed the big prize this year at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas, but the adorably talented couple still got lucky . . . in an arcade.

“We took a few days off after Vegas to recover, so we decided to do some writing in Calabasas,” Shawna told Country Weekly. “While we were there in California, I told Keifer that I have always wanted to go to the Santa Monica Pier, so we spent an afternoon there.”

And with her awards show lashes still perched upon her eyes and his bag of quarters filling his pocket, Shawna and Keifer found an arcade on the pier where they could try their luck on some of their favorite games. “We usually stick with games like skee ball and pinball, but we ended up hitting it big that day on the wheel of fortune game,” says Shawna, who is also flying high on the news that Thompson Square’s new single, “Testing the Water,” will debut April 21 on country radio. “I won a ton of tickets on that game.”

And as Keifer grabbed his phone and Shawna quickly Instagrammed a pic of their winnings, they put their next thoughts on the big prize they would ultimately take back to the tour bus.

“We got a sock monkey,” says Keifer, chuckling. “We pooled our tickets together. We wanted to get the biggest thing we could get, ya know?”
