Taylor Swift's Surprising Response to Prom Invitation

"Will you be my date?" Taylor asks teen Kevin McGuire.

Taylor Swift was asked to the prom, but she's taking her date to an awards show instead.

High school football player Kevin McGuire, who was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 13 years old, seemingly won his battle with cancer in 2010, but at age 18, the Sommerdale, N.J., native had a relapse.

A Facebook page was quickly set up by family members and friends in the hopes of making one of Kevin's dreams come true—taking Taylor Swift to the prom as his date. The Facebook page quickly garnered more than 87,000 supporters and news spread to the superstar herself, who sent her own invitation to the teen.

"Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom. But I was wondering, the ACM Awards are coming up. Would you be my date?" the singer asked via Facebook.

So did Kevin accept Taylor's counter proposal? "Obviously I said yes," he told USA Today. The ACM event "is a lot better than the senior prom," he said.

At the same time, he acknowledged, "I'm sick and I'm not sure if I'm able to."

The Academy of Country Music Awards will take place April 1 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
