Taylor Swift’s Piano Playing Got Her Cast in “The Giver”

OK, so there is a lot of buzz about Taylor Swift appearing in the next Meryl Streep movie, called The Giver, which comes out Aug. 15.

Turns out Taylor is in a few brief scenes, in flashbacks, playing the part of Rosemary, the producer told an audience in Washington Monday (May 12) at the Library of Congress.

“It always makes us laugh when people announce ‘Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep—and Taylor Swift,’” producer Nikki Silver said.

But Monday’s crowd was filled with teens from field trips to the Library of Congress, so interest in Taylor ran high.

So the producer explained that Taylor got that small part because she plays piano. Ya see, the character of Rosemary was written as someone who plays piano.

And coincidentally, producers saw Taylor in concert last year and saw Taylor playing piano.

“She’s a very soulful, interesting young woman and we had this very out-of-the box idea that maybe it would make sense that she could be our Rosemary,” Silver said.

“And she’s fantastic. I’ve spent a lot of time with her, and she had just been looking to dip her toe slightly in acting.”

And voilà! Taylor landed the small role with a big buzz.
