Taylor Sells a Million Albums in a Week

Taylor Swift is in high cotton by becoming only the sixteenth artist to ever sell more than one million albums in a week—Her Speak Now album sold 1,047,000 copies in its debut week, according to Nielsen SoundScan numbers.

To put it another way, nearly one in every six albums sold last week was Speak Now, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The last one to do so was Lil’ Wayne with the release of Tha Carter III two years ago, Billboard reports.

Taylor is the first female country artist to enter the million-plus club, and only the fourth female, period. The others: Whitney Houston, Britney Spears and Norah Jones.

And Taylor has the second-best country debut ever. Garth Brooks’ Double Live album sold 1,085,000 copies in 1998.
