Taylor Says It’s Fun to Torment Her Ex in a Song

One particular ex “made me feel like I wasn’t as good or as relevant as these hipster bands he listened to.”

I'm really gonna miss you picking fights
And me, falling for it screaming that I'm right
And you would hide away and find your peace of mind
With some indie record that's much cooler than mine

When Taylor Swift says she writes songs about her relationships, she's not kidding around.

Take her latest single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” The lyrics above are most definitely tied to a particular ex—whose identity she won’t reveal.

The song, Taylor tells USA Today, is "a definitive portrait of how I felt when I finally stopped caring what my ex thought of me."

At the same time, Taylor wanted a little revenge against a guy who "made me feel like I wasn't as good or as relevant as these hipster bands he listened to."

"So I made a song that I knew would absolutely drive him crazy when he heard it on the radio," she said.

"Not only would it hopefully be played a lot, so that he'd have to hear it, but it's the opposite of the kind of music that he was trying to make me feel inferior to."

Why torture the ex?

"Because that's fun."
