Taylor Beats Out Gaga, Adele for AMA Artist of the Year
Country superstar picks up total of three trophies at American Music Awards, including the top prize.
Taylor Swift dominated the American Musics Awards Sunday night (Nov. 20) by winning three trophies, including the top prize for the second time.
Taylor beat out pop bestie Katy Perry as well as Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne and Adele for artist of the year, an honor that truly seemed to surprise and fluster "T Swizzle."
"This is one of the craziest things that’s ever happened to me," she said after getting the trophy from Lionel Richie, who himself has a country duets album coming out in March.
"To get this . . . to be nominated alongside artists I’m a super-fan of . . . I can’t believe this is happening to me. This is so crazy. Oh my God, Thank you so much to the fans, to the fans, and also to the fans. I did not think this was gonna happen."
Taylor also won trophies for favorite country female and country album, bringing her total career AMA trophy count to 10.
Taylor even got an "I'm not worthy" bow from Nicki Minaj when Taylor presented her with the trophy for rap/hip-hop album.
The Band Perry scored a coveted performance slot, for "If I Die Young"—the only country act to perform on the show—but the group didn't win any trophies.
Lady Antebellum beat out The Band Perry and Zac Brown Band for best country band/duo/group.
"We just wanna say thank you to the fans; it starts and ends with you and we love you very very much," Lady A's Hillary Scott said.
