Suzy Bogguss Treats “Lucky” Guests to Album Party

New record features interpretations of Suzy’s Merle Haggard favorites.

Suzy Bogguss gave some invited guests a live sampling of her new album, Lucky, at a release party at the BMI building in Nashville, Monday (Feb. 10). On the new record, Suzy covers her favorite Merle Haggard songs and gives them her own special twist and flavor.

Suzy, a longtime Merle devotee, and her band kicked off the party with the song that inspired the album’s title, “I Always Get Lucky With You.” She followed that with “If We Make It Through December,” a working-class number that Suzy noted was a favorite since her teen years. Suzy remembered that particular song from an 8-track tape she “inherited” when her dad passed his old car on to her.

After the lovely “Silver Wings,” Suzy shifted gears to “I Think I’ll Just Stay Here and Drink,” which showed that she’s lost none of her vocal prowess. “I had super-fun with this song,” Suzy told the assembled crowd. Following “Running Kind,” Suzy declared, “I am very excited to play all these great songs.”

Fans can pick up Lucky, which has received rave reviews from Country Weekly and other outlets, at stores and through Suzy’s website.
