Stars React to Singer’s Shooting Death

Wayne Mills played shows with Blake Shelton and Jamey Johnson.

Country stars have been tweeting out their thoughts on Nashville musician Wayne Mills, who died after being shot on Saturday, Nov. 23, at downtown Nashville bar Pit and Barrel.

The bar's owner, Chris Ferrell, claims he shot Wayne in self-defense. Nashville police are currently investigating the shooting, though no arrests have been made. Several reports suggest the two began arguing over Wayne smoking in the bar.

Wayne, a native of Arab, Ala., led the eponymous Wayne Mills Band, playing college towns and bars around the south for years. His website describes him as a "stiff-necked, country troubadour with an affinity for honky-tonks." During his lengthy career of performing, Wayne shared the stage with Blake Shelton, Jamey Johnson and many more.

Friends have set up the Wayne Mills Family Fund to help support his wife Carol and son Jack. Donations can be made here.
