Stars React to CMA Nods

With nominations for the 44th Annual Country Music Association Awards released yesterday (Aug. 31) and today, country stars are now reacting to their nods.

Blake Shelton’s reaction after yesterday’s first round of nomination announcements was typical Twitter stuff from him:

“Holy%*&#@! I got 2 CMA nominations today! Miranda got 6!!! and there are still more to be announced tomorrow!! This calls for a drink!”

But Blake and fiancée Miranda Lambert hardly had time to sober up before a second round of good news. Blake ended up with four nominations and Miranda scored a record nine. Blake’s reaction day two was a bit more sober than the previous day.

“As a first time male vocalist of the year nominee I'd like to say thanks to all you loyal fans out there!!!!!! It’s been a long LONG ride!!!”

Then again, Blake can’t be too serious. Just a few seconds after that post, Blake added:

“Oh and ‘Daddy Likey’!!!!!!”

Meanwhile, when Chris Young helped announce the nominations for the New Artist of the Year category during a press conference at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Aug. 31, he was no doubt surprised to see his own name on the list.

Still, the singer behind the hit “The Man I Want to Be” admitted he’s in for some stiff competition. “It’s cool to be nominated in this category. It’s gonna be tough. As of last month, [when Jerrod Niemann] had his No. 1, I was so excited for him. We’ve been buddies a long time—I looked at the names and thought, ‘We’ve all had No. 1 records.’ So it’s a tough category. I think Zac [Brown Band] had like five [No. 1 singles] so I think we’re all gonna have to team up and take Zac out before this goes down.”

Duo Steel Magnolia also picked up its first nomination. "It’s a huge honor to be nominated with Sugarland and Brooks & Dunn,” says Meghan Linsey, who along with partner Joshua Scott Jones, is up for Vocal Duo of the Year. “We went to the CMA Awards last year and it was our first year. I remember getting out of the car and thinking ‘nobody’s gonna know who we are.’ I was scared to even get out of the car,” says Meghan.
