Scotty McCreery Makes History With No. 1 Album Debut

First country act to debut at No. 1 with first album on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart.

Scotty McCreery sold an amazing 197,000 copies of his debut album, Clear as Day—and he broke a bunch of records doing it.

Scotty, at 18, is the youngest artist to top the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart, according to billboard.com. Before this week, that title belonged to Omarion, who was 20 when he had a No. 1 in 2005 with his debut album.

Scotty is also the first country artist to top that chart with a debut release. And he is the first Idol alum to top the chart with a debut release since 2003, when Ruben Studdard did it by selling 417,000 copies of his debut, Soulful.

One other country album is in the Billboard 200 Top 5: Lady Antebellum sold another 58,000 copies of Own the Night, good for fourth place.
