Big Kenny, one-half of the duo Big & Rich, and Lonestar lead vocalist Richie McDonald shared the Songwriter of the Year honor at the Oct. 18 BMI Awards, along with veteran Music Row tunesmith Harley Allen. Richie and Big Kenny each had three songs among the 50 most performed BMI tunes of the year. Song of the Year was awarded to Tim Nichols for Tim McGraw's smash "Live like You Were Dying." The Nashville black tie event also honored Charlie Daniels with the coveted BMI Icon trophy. Montgomery Gentry and Travis Tritt helped pay musical tribute to Charlie during the awards ceremony.
