Ronan’s Mom Says Hearing Taylor’s Song “Was Very Emotional”

The Stand Up to Cancer telethon performance put cancer victim’s mom in tears from the start.

Were you blown away last week (Sept. 7) when Taylor Swift sang the song about the 3-year-old boy on the Stand Up to Cancer telethon?

Imagine how the boy's mother felt.

Taylor sang "Ronan," about a 3-year-old who succumbed to the disease. She based the song on blog entries from Ronan's mom, Maya Thompson, who said she was in tears the second Taylor called her and started talking about her son.

“It’s really amazing,” Maya told the New York Daily News. “All the details that she got from reading my story. She knew the most intimate things.”

Maya said she first heard "Ronan" when the rest of the world did, on the telethon.

“It was very emotional, a lot of tears,” Maya, pregnant with her fourth child, said. “I had a hard time focusing on the words that were coming out of her mouth, because I was focusing on the emotion in her face.

“You could see the sadness, and how touched she was.”
