Rodney Celebrates Twice

Rodney Atkins had two reasons to throw a party Wednesday, March 28—his birthday and the No. 1 success of his single, “Watching You.”

Rodney, now 38, celebrated both milestones at a music industry party at Nashville’s BMI office, where he was given congratulatory plaques and a birthday cake in his honor. Among the many in attendance was friend and tourmate Taylor Swift. Before the event, the rangy singer from East Tennessee met with members of the media to talk about “Watching You” along with his CD If You’re Going Through Hell, which has now sold one million copies. As for “Watching You,” based on a real-life incident with his son Elijah, Rodney said, “Being that this is such a personal story, I can’t imagine anything better than going No. 1 for five weeks. This renews your faith in what people want to hear, because it’s real and so relatable.” Rodney capped off the day by declaring, “This is the best birthday ever.” Read more about this talented singer in the April 23 issue of Country Weekly, on newsstands April 9.
