Reports: Keith Urban Is On as American Idol Judge

Keith has said only that the show contacted him: "But they've been reaching out to a lot of people."

Two media outlets are reporting that American Idol has reached a deal for Keith Urban to be a judge for the next season of the wildly popular TV singing contest that launched Carrie Underwood's career.

The Hollywood Reporter's website says Keith and pop star Nicki Minaj are both very close to signing contracts, with Keith's worth about $3 to $4 million. Thecountryvibe.com reports that Keith has accepted an offer for $3 million.

As for Keith himself, he told a New Zealand radio station last week that American Idol has in fact contacted him.

"But they've been reaching out to a lot of people, so I think they're still figuring out which way they are going to go," he said.

Keith also told the radio station that finishing a new album is his top priority.

Brad Paisley also had been contacted to be a judge for the show. But thecountryvibe.com reports that the two sides couldn't agree on a deal.

CountryWeekly.com has asked Keith's rep to comment, but there has been no immediate response.
