Reba’s Malibu Country Comes to Small Screen

ABC sitcom will also include Lily Tomlin.

Reba McEntire's latest television project, Malibu Country, has been picked up by ABC. Reba broke the news via Twitter.

"What a great day this has been! Got the long awaited call!" she tweeted. "Malibu Country has been picked up! It's gonna be on ABC! Woohoo!"

The show features Reba as a Nashville mom whose rock-star husband leaves the family and takes most of their cash with him. She then moves with her three kids and mother to Malibu, Calif., and tries to reignite her singing career while protecting her kids from the materialistic snares of their new environment.

Veteran actress Lily Tomlin will portray Reba's mother.

"We're going to have so much fun!" Reba noted in another tweet. "Can't wait to get to work!"

Her previous sitcom, Reba, ran from 2001 to 2007, first on The WB and then The CW.

No word on what day and time Malibu Country will air.

In other ABC news, the network has also picked up the family soap Nashville, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show is set against the backdrop of the Nashville music scene and revolves around one star at her peak (Friday Night Lights' Connie Britton) and another on the rise (Heroes' Hayden Panettiere).
